About The Coffee Experience

For the first time in Australia, coffee will truly come of age with its own showcase alongside the finest produce and culinary talent the country has to offer. The inaugural “coffee experience” will be launched at Melbourne’s GOOD FOOD and Wine Show and will bring together leading global coffee experts to further elevate the industry to a competitive world level. The event has been created by the team at BeanScene , the specialist coffee magazine.

Editor, Steve Agi, says that in the 18 months he has been at the helm of the magazine, not only has he seen the Australian café scene thrive and continue to improve coffee standards, but also our restaurants and finest dining outlets are now beginning to recognise that coffee is a gourmet statement in itself. By bringing together Australia and the world’s best baristas, suppliers and roasters, “The coffee experience” will now place the product firmly alongside the overall food and beverage industry and continue to educate both the hospitality industry and the public in regard to taste and quality. It is intended that “The coffee experience” will become an ongoing highlight of the GOOD FOOD and Wine show in Melbourne.

good_food_wine100With the café scene in increasingly good shape, the new event will seek to communicate that coffee is now no longer just the preserve of cafes. The fine dining end of the market is now aiming to present their coffee as the delicate bow that ties off a beautifully presented meal rather than an afterthought. With the confirmed attendance of current World Barista champion, the United Kingdom’s, Gwilym Davis, Australian audiences will be able to experience the art of world class coffee making first hand. Gwilym’s appearance comes shortly before the next World Barista championships in London from 23 to 25 June. This is the first time the current World Barista champion has visited Australia. The all Australian and two time national champion, David Makin, will also make appearances. And, if you thought that coffee was only about the taste sensation, then come and see the nation’s best baristas in the invitation only latte art competition. for the first time the likes of Gloria Jeans, cafenatics, five Senses, campos and Villa & Hut to name a few will go head to head in a PURA latte art smackdown. The Australian latte art champion, Will priestly, will demonstrate that coffee can delight the visual senses as well, along with Victorian barista champion, caleb podhaczky.

A broad and diverse gathering of overall coffee industry experience will be in attendance too, including the founder of Toby’s estate, Toby Smith; creator of the Danes Grand Barista championship, paul Jackson; the legendary Genovese family and; many of Australia’s leading coffee roasters, making it a veritable who’s who of the coffee scene. We invite one and all to be a part of this unique event, with its interactive and fun program with lots of demonstrations, amazing displays of skill and talent, passion for the hunble coffee bean and above all, copious amounts of quality coffee available.
